BAGHDAD (AP) - Leaders from nearly all of Iraq's top political blocs called Saturday for a solution to a crisis pitting the Shiite-led government against Sunnis and Kurds, saying the dispute threatens the country's national interests.

While no one at the mini-summit demanded that al-Maliki step down, the fact that the discussions included key figures from across Iraq's political spectrum underscored the growing

Too many lives; too much time and money wasted to save people who do not want to be saved. Ditto Iran, Syria, Afganistan et al.

The middle east is in a constant state of turmoil. Besides religious conflicts, there are ethnic difficulties. It is a very complex problem that is not easy to resolve.

Nothing will ever change in the Mideast. Tribal communities have always been there and there is no changing them. It's like the Hatfields and the McCoys plus one or more tribes that have been at war with each other since the beginning of time.

>> the dispute threatens the country's national interests. <<

What are "national interests" exactly?

What? Oh, yeah, there's some writing between the lines there. It says "national interests" are the interests of the authoritarian rulers of all three of those religious/cultural factions. Has nothing to do with the interests of the long-suffering people of Iraq. Except to the extent they buy the baloney their "leaders" shovel at them and keep letting themselves be led around and used as pawns.

This has nothing to do with the oil embargo, but if the hard-liners are weakening here, it might spill over into the nuclear standoff.

The only thing we have to show for the war, is the 4500 USA killed and thoUSAnds more injured and we have not changed a thing.
