High Voltage Politics, Life and Times of the Electric Car

Oilprice.com -- Expensive to buy, cheaper to operate and of course friendlier to the environment, the electric car is traveling a bumpy road globally, with the added barrier of a bit of high-voltage politics Stateside – the toll it must pay for its bailout bounty.

Gas prices and environmental concerns have boosted electric car sales, but the issue of bailouts for the auto industry is now coming back to haunt them. One car in particular, the Chevy Volt, has been the subject of partisan politics and election campaigning - publicity that could help make or break its success.

"Of course friendlier to the environment" until the toll on the electric grid and battery disposal start becoming issues as more are sold.

$41,000 before subsidy. For a hybrid.

Don't forget they get the $7,500 taxpayers subsidy.

Let the greenies spend their own money, not taxpayers money.

Let the greenies walk. Let them freeze. Let them go broke. Let them go first.

Green is red.

Better on the environment? Have you ever read what it takes to make the batteries, and the amount of energy to make them, transport the materials...to China because they are to toxic to be made in the US.
Come'on people just because you, as an owner, think you're making a difference driving an electric car doesn't mean that producing the cars isn't harming the environment somewhere.

The only thing I could use one of these for would be to drive to the store or post office. I believe a golf cart would be cheaper.

Would not help me with my business.

Even WITH subsidies, the car does not make a lot of economic sense for most people. And in some circles, the subsidies are toxic.
