A (Long) History of Federal Investment in Fracking Technology

cleantechnica.com -- With the battle over new federal natural gas drilling regulations heating up, now is a good time to recall the pivotal role that federal dollars have played in developing the drilling method called fracking. ..the practice has been linked in recent years to significant public health and environmental problems including air pollution, water contamination and even earthquakes, yet it has been largely exempt from regulation on a national level.

Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus of The Breakthrough Institute make a detailed case for the role of federal funds in fracking technology, in a recent article at American.com..

..a research history showing that these relatively primitive operations have little to do with the modern commercial-scale fracking technology developed later in the

For T42 and the other "BIG OIL AND GAS LOVES US" chanting haters I suggest that your phrase is actually quite true!

Whilst vilifying an industry folks tend to overlook many, many things. In this case probably one of the biggest things, human life. I'll bet T42 and all the other haters never gave a thought to themselves or someone they love more than likely owes their very life to Big Oil.

How can this be, they'll ask???

And the answer is so simple, looking them right in the eye, but still unnoticed.

How can this be??? And how can some folks be so narrow minded as to not realize this?

So next time you hear T42 and others sarcatiscally chant, "BIG OIL AND GAS LOVES US", remember that even though they don't mean it they are absolutely correct!

There isn't anything much inherently evil or wrong about fracking itself...but while the process is ultimately the same from the dawn of the oil industry to the present, how it is done has changed. A little simple explanation:
http://www.boulderweekly.com/article-7892-boulder%E2%80%99s-fracking-roots.html

There is a reason why people have concerns now, even though it is the 'same' process as it always was. Actually, it isn't....quite. Therefore, it is disingenuous for the people promoting current fracking practices to state categorically that 100 years of history of conventional well drilling proves absolutely that unconventional 'tight oil and gas' production will have exactly the same results per unit of successful extraction.

Aquarinut, From article: the practice has been linked in recent years to significant public health and environmental problems including air pollution, water contamination and even earthquakes

On what scientific evidence other than "we think there is a correlation" or "it might have some contributing factors" or "it must be true, its on TV"
=====================
You left out their biggest 'evidence', emotional feelings. After all opinion trumps the facts when bombarded with misinformation.

The U.S. military has vast geothermal potential at many of its facilities and the Navy has been operating a geothermal plant at its China Lake research base since the 1980's).

The private sector has always gained profits from our tax dollars.

We now need to continue investing in solar, wind and other renewable energy sources.
