When the maps need updating I will just buy another cheap one. If you don't know where you are it can help out. You don't need to get lost out in the boondocks either. If you come to a better road, take it. You still need to use common sense - don't leave a four-lane highway for a two-lane road, don't leave the two-lane road you are on for a road that that intersects if has a stop sign on it to your road, don't leave a paved road for a dirt road, a dirt road for a 2-track, etc.

Both my daughter and eldest son have one, but I rely on my old trucker's atlases and street maps. When in doubt of these, I have my computer map software which is pretty good. Haven't been lost yet.

My car doesn't have a GPS and between my wife and I we haven;t been totally lost yet ha ha.
