I do pretty much what sleepy... and stone... do, but I only make one trip inside the SA. The SA Rewards points add up quite quickly due to paying with and reloading the SA fuel card. At least ten times during 2012 I redeemed rewards points for a 50-cent per gallon coupon, only on Tuesdays so it was worth $1 off per gallon, of course. I usually purchased 15-25 gallons, saving $15-25 on each fill.

I do basically what Sleepy does. When my Chase card has 5% CB on gas stations, I buy a $500 or so SA fuel card, getting a ton of SA reward points as well. When I fill up, I use a 10-center (doubled for Tuesday) and with the SA rewards, I always get 26-cents off, not including the 5% CB ($25 from that $500 purchase). You also get SA Rewards points everytime you fill, so it's a double-dip.

Sleepy, thanks for the inadvertent tip about the SA FUEL card for 3-5 cent discount; I didn't know about that and will look into it. Do you guesstimate how much to put on it each time? Do you get that discount in addition to the 3¢ for using the rewards card? And do you use SA credit card? I don't think I want another credit card to keep up with, but it might be worth it.
Do others of you use SA credit card? I don't have to buy gas as often as many of you, so it might not be worth it.

" What we have here is a FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE " Us consumers VS SA. VERY many stations have their own rules and guidelines. NO two seem to be alike. I use an SA REWARDS card, a refillable SA FUEL card for 3-5 cent discount, and a 10 cent discount coupon. I fund the fuel card with a credit card which gives me an add'l 5% cash back. So, process at station, unless I know thw particular SA...unless I'm asked via loudspeaker, inside vs out side pay, or unless I see pre-pay only stickers...go inside, fill card, using SA Rewards, inquire about discount policies, go to pump, usually insert SA Rewards for disc., FUEL card to pay, then go inside for cash refund. 2 trips inside, 2 trips through line. NOT efficient for me or SA. I complete fill 1-2 times per week. Pain in posterior. I try to use my fav pay inside after filling SAs,but that is not always possible. SA= S ometimes an A dventure!

The Holiday station at Hamline and Marshall in St. Paul, like many stations in the city, requires pre-pay or credit card payment at most pumps, making it difficult to use coupons (they will refund the savings in cash inside). However, at the 4 or 5 pumps that are in clear view of the service counter, you can use the "Pay Inside" option. I'm not sure how many other stations are set up this way, but it does make coupon use easier.

salgood - FWIW, I believe that SA is a franchised location (one of Kath's).
You might want to contact Kath's main office on Rice in Little Canada as well as SA's Customer Service. Obviously, SA has a lot more on the line if their franchises are pi**ing customers off because I suspect few have noticed the sign near the entrance saying it's a franchise but all have noticed the big SuperAmerica sign.

April 26th, the S.A. at 3592 N Lexington, Shoreview. The "pay inside" button wasn't functioning, I tried several times. I prepaid with my debit card then went inside with my coupon and was told it was too late, I'd already paid. When I pointed out the issue with the pay inside button I was told "there's nothing I can do, you already paid". New policy or not, I'll never stop at an S.A. again.

SA apparently has a policy now that you can prepay for gas inside or at the pump, then bring the coupon in and they will refund the coupon amount in cash.

Anyone else here ever have a negative experience with trying to redeem coupons at pre pay gas stations?
It is probably my own fault due to lack of experience with this. Today I stopped at a SA in Richfield that I do not usually go to and it turned out to be Pre pay only. I should have just got back in my car and drove off to one of the stations I normally use but instead I went in and gave the clerk some cash to hold on to. I intended the cash ($100) to be a deposit of sorts and I planned to go in after fueling, present my coupons, Walser card and then pay with my credit card like I always do for gas. With it being a Tuesday I would have got .29 cents off per gallon.
I guess I found out the hard way that if you want to do any of that you need to inform the clerk of your intentions in advance. I wound up paying for the gas in cash and not getting any discounts at all.
Sometimes we learn things the hard way, it is very rare that I end up at a pre pay station but now I know what to do if it ever happens again. I wont be going back to that one.

I do not think the paper is worth the money for the coupons.
Here is the same amount .07¢ coupon with a better expiration date for holiday.
I bet someone out their could find the same amount for Kwik Trip.
For what the papers provide for news I do not think it is a good value. Even with a discounted subscription, and coupons you can usually get online.

mnrick041 asks "Is this going on at all BP stations or just ones that BP owns."
I believe, like all of the "major" oil companies (ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Chevron, Marathon), BP has divested itself of all company-owned stations). Additionally, it continues to shrink its footprint, having recently sold its operations in the southeast U.S. to Marathon so there are a dwindling number of places you'll find a BP. (Don't look for any in beyond far western Minnesota when heading west.)
I assume BP's Driver Rewards is available at "participating stations", which I would guess would be most, if not all.

Is this going on at all BP stations or just ones that BP owns. I guess your comment confuses me because there are BP Stations all over the metro area but I know a lot of them are privately owned.
Personally I use SA because with them I can use my Walser Rewards Card combined with my SA Rewards and a coupon. Last night I got $3.48 knocked down to $3.32 when I filled up at the SA in Shakopee.

BP begins Driver Rewards:
[quote] The BP Driver Rewards Program lets you earn rewards on your quality fuel purchases at BP. Simply request your complimentary card online or pick one up at your local BP station. Once you activate it online, swipe it at the pump to earn and redeem.
With BP Driver Rewards: • Earn an instant reward of 10¢ per gallon upon registration.* • Earn 5¢ per gallon for every 20 gallons of fuel purchased.** • Earn on all grades of quality BP gasoline with Invigorate® and BP Diesel, too!
Pick up your BP Rewards Card at participating BP stations or request one.
* Rewards are redeemable for a one-time fill up to 20 gallons. Any unused rewards on each fuel purchase are forfeited. ** Following a minimum of two transactions totaling 20 gallons. [unquote] If you travel outside the Twin Cities metro area where BP has stations, this is probably something useful. Locally, you can get better deals elsewhere.

***** In Today's Rainbow Grocery Ad *****
Fuelperks will be ending on Saturday, April 27, 2013
No points will be earned after that date.
Roundy's Reward Fuelperks can be redeemed through June 30th, 2013
Too bad. I liked letting the balance build up on that one before redeeming it.
I will guess that a new program will come along since Cub has their program going with Holiday.
I decided to post it here rather than dredge up the dormant Roundy Reward topic.

joejoe - I got the same thing at the SA down the road at.
1980 County Road 42 West
I think the district manager is pushing them. I would call SA customer service and complain. I have done that at SA's the put up a fuse. Then the next time I have no problem with the coupon.

Have any of you heard the radio commercials for the new BP rewards program? I have been hearing the ads on KQRS, I think it is a .05 cents off per gallon program but I cannot find it on their website.
I am just wondering if it is something like the SA Rewards card or not.
JoeJoe, I have been in that SA a few times, there used to always be a older long haired guy working overnights in there and I never had problems getting him to take any coupons. He always told me he was applying for other jobs, I am not sure if he is there anymore.

DI, I forgot to mention 42 and Lac Lavon, which is usually also quicker to fall - it's close enough to the Costco that they keep a tight eye on prices. Filled up there for $3.399 - 3 cent loyalty (though it DID NOT register at the pump, that seems to be SA's newest trick) - 10 cents x 2 Tuesday double = $3.169. (And apparently just in time).

01falcoguy - Personally, I'd just go down the street to the Kwik Trip where I would almost personally guarantee that you will not have a hassle with coupon acceptance. Yeah, they don't double them but I'd rather just know that I'll always get my 10¢/gal. off.

Bungee, as I had previously noted, I had the same problem at the same 42 and Garrett - Apple Valley SA that you did with DI's coupon pack of 10 cent coupons from Exxon-Elk River, and I know that byrock did as well.
The manager there is a real control freak and, although, TECHNICALLY, he may be right (since it is a reproduced ad, it's not the original printed ad, which he gleefully made a point of telling me), I can't believe that it's the problem he says it is. Of all the SA's in the world that will take that 10 cent coupon, I would be shocked if they are the only store that SA won't take the coupon from and sends them back to the store as rejects. Otherwise, NO CORPORATE SA would take them, since they do show rejected coupons at the register.
But, depending on price, I'll go to the one on 13 and Diffley or the one on 52 and Upper 55th -- neither of them have ever balked at DI's coupon -- and the one in Apple Valley can suffer without my business.

Philo_Gray asks "DI - do you have a link for the Elk River $.10 off that goes to late April or May?"
Not right now. It takes several hours to review and compile the info from the coupon sites (although that time is getting shorter as more of them bite the dust) so I prefer to wait until my feature coupon is about to expire (which is on next Wednesday, April 10). I've learned that the coupon site that tends to have the most gasoline coupons (Valpak) doesn't update until after the end of the month so it's not productive to start until after then.

Some of my favorite coupons are expiring so I thought I update some links
a $.10 off coupon that expires 4/30
Only $.07 for Holiday but an expiration of 6/30 (more then the $.06 coupons from others)
DI - do you have a link for the Elk River $.10 off that goes to late April or May?

I have been using the Kwik Trip/Holiday coupons I get out of the Star Tribune the first Wednesday of the month. I combine that with my SA rewards tag and I try to do one of my fill ups on Tuesdays each week when the coupons are doubled.
Even with those efforts I have still spent $606 on gas so far in 2013.
For those of you considering a new or used car purchase. Walser and Luther dealerships (they represent nearly every make of car) both offer fuel discount cards with new and most used car purchases. Walser does SA and Luther does Holiday. I am not aware if Morries does anything or not. I was out at Walser Honda last night looking at something and the sales guy was explaining to me that their discount card can be integrated with the SA rewards program card which will give you the Walser 6 cent discount plus the SA 3 cent discount and it is all on the one card that Walser gives you.

SA in bursville was balking at a coupon. They claim a print out from the internet was not valid. It came off a copy machine.

Bungee, you're right, I don't get gas as frequently as many of you do. So therefore haven't gotten the 3¢ discount as many times.
Sleepy, not sure what neighborhood you think that station is in, but it is not a "bad" neighborhood.
I didn't have these issues previous to this particular clerk being there at night. There used to be two on duty but they must be cutting back, since lately it's been just him. Previously, I'd go inside and tell the cashier that I wanted to fill up and use a coupon, and they'd let me do it without prepaying or leaving my d.l. or anything. But this guy must be new. Maybe they got chewed out for doing that, I don't know. I don't think I look like anyone who would run off. Heck, I can hardly walk sometimes, let alone run. ;) And I seriously doubt anyone who was planning on running off w/o paying would go inside and show their face, have a conversation (which would make them more memorable), etc. And then there's the fact that they can look out the window and see my license number. But this guy looks young, and probably doesn't want to jeopardize his job so feels he has to go "by the book". Their policy, like many, is to prepay at night etc.
But you do raise a good point, Sleepy. Maybe I should call during the day and ask if it is really necessary to leave a d.l. or prepay if I go inside first. Or maybe I could leave my rewards card or something. But I'm not good at calling businesses during the day, so not sure it will ever happen.

So many replies! I'm glad that I engaged the group in discussion here :)
The BBB replied to me that they cannot help in this case, so I contacted SA customer service. They apologized and will give me a refund for the difference. I don't think that we need to go through all of this to use their own policy, but the apology and refund is a good step forward.
I'm just going to keep the coupon policy printout in my car just in case, and make sure that the coupon isn't blurred/fuzzy from my printer.

My experiences during SA double coupon Tuesdays have been pretty positive. I frequent the Blaine SAs at 65 and Main and University and 109th Ave.
A couple occasions I have had 10 cents/gallon internet coupons from Click N Print Savings and Valpak not accepted, because they could not see the "source" of where the coupon came from. I was fortunate to have backup 10 centers at the time they were not accepted.
Otherwise, I have never had problems when presenting the whole page printout from Valpak or Click N Print Savings coupons, because it clearly shows the website where they came from.
I know a lot of people here like to loathe SA, but I cannot complain in saving a consistent 26 cents off per gallon on Tuesdays (10 cent coupons doubled, 3 cents for SA card, and 3 cents for SA Fuel gift card).

G O you just gotta get out of that neighborhood. Too many "issues" at that station, and that's probably the LAST place I would give up a license. NONE and NEVER. Does SA know they are doing this? I think a call to SA corp. and it would stop immediately. Do you have an SA fuel card? Why not? If you ran a SA Reward card thru the pump, I would think that would be enough to identify you for drive off purposes, and I would guess they would have lots of well working cameras if it is that tough.
Lately I've been pre-swiping Rewards card at pump and .03 is automatically removed from pump price. Fuel card discount inside when I pay. Used to do it all inside, but I like to see the pump price come down. Most of the locations I seem to hit most often (5 or 6) allow pump then pay.

G O - I've never heard of that "too many times" story before and would be willing to bet there's nothing to it. I believe you are correct in assuming this cashier just blurted out something off the top of his head.
From past posts by you, I would guess you probably drive fewer miles than most of us and therefore use less gas than most. I believe this "too many times" thing would have been mentioned long ago by someone else if there was anything to it. I usually get gas once, maybe twice, a week and have always gotten the .03/gallon My SA Rewards discount during the promotional period; the same goes for previous promotions when the discount was .05/gallon.
The only inconsistency I've noticed is sometimes the price at the pump drops if I've swiped my rewards card and other times the discount gets factored in when the cashier rings up the sale. I always check my receipt.

My experiences with using coupons at SA have been similar to Bungee's, and I, also, try to have more than one kind with me at a time. And/or I go in before filling up to show them the coupon I want to use.
But last week I had a new experience. I went in to the SA I go to a lot. It was late, approaching midnight on a Tue and I was anxious to get it paid for before double coupon day was over. The newer cashier was on, the one who won't let me fill up without surrendering my driver's license, which I refuse to do, b/c it doesn't feel safe to me. So, instead, I prepaid for 12 gallons, guessing at how much to get. I had a 10¢ coupon and the receipt reflected the $2.40 discount. But there was no indication of the 3¢ discount for using the Speedy Rewards card. When I questioned that, the first thing he said was that they don't give it every time and I must have used it too many times to get the discount that time. Huh? I've never heard or read anything like that. And the signs usually just say 3¢ disc, no mention of limited quantities, although their sign didn't have the 3¢ disc posted at all. It had the diesel price instead.
As I questioned what he was telling me, he then said that I would get the discount at the pump. And that did indeed happen. When I went out to put the gas in my tank the price on the pump was showing as 3.72, when it was really 3.75.
So I got my discount and chalked this up to the clerk not knowing what to say, and just coming out with the first thing that popped into his head, whether or not it was true.
But I want to double check whether anyone else has had an experience like this or has heard anything that might indicate the possibility of there being limited use of the 3¢ disc. Just in case.

sleepyhollowtoo asks mousehugs “Why do you think they hate Valpack?”
Speculations on my part but I think Valpack covers the metro area and has more gasoline coupons than other such companies.

Amen to that Bungee. Some employees, and store managers, and regional managers try to assert their "authority" real or perceived, or otherwise. They are arguing about a slip of paper. As in the case of BP-Elk River coupon, 2"x1" If they didn't want to match the competition, they wouldn't. It brings me in to SA, never did before the coupons, and sometimes I buy other things.
MOUSEHUGS: Why do you think they hate Valpack? I too often drive many miles during day but don't need to fill as often as you, and it does really add up. I refill an SA "FUEL PERKS" card for an add'l 3-5 cents per gallon and occasionally use one of their 25/50 cent off coupons (doubled tuesday) if I'm near empty and have earned it. Currently have about 20,000 pts avail. I use a credit card that gives me 5% cash back for gas purchases to fill the fuel perks. Get SA Rewards for that too. Wasn't 'till I found the Forum that I found all the possibilities.

Regarding coupons at SA, it's been my experience that acceptance or rejection varies from station to station, sometimes even from employee to employee.
I recently had a ten-center from DI's big coupon post for BP Forest Lake / Vadnais Heights refused at the SA on 15020 Garrett Ave & Co Rd 42 in Apple Valley. The exact same coupon handed back to me in Apple Valley was later accepted at an SA in Woodbury on 9910 Norma Ln & Hudson Rd. And no, I didn't drive all the way to Woodbury just to save the 10¢/gal. ;-)
The same scenario has played out before with other coupons at different locations. Until they achieve some consistency, I try to keep a variety of coupons from various sources with me so one of them should always be accepted at the time of sale.

We just stopped going to SA, tired of having the coupons rejected for numerous reasons, but they really hate Valpac coupons. I fill a tank of gas a day so every penny counts. The last reject from SA was that they didn't feel the station was close enough to be considered a competitor! OMY!
HOLIDAY, You are my choice! No hassles EVER at any station! They have double tuesday's as well, they will go up to a dime and double it on Tuesdays.
