Gasoline inventories tightest for early September since '08

GasBuddy Blog -- It's not looking good for motorists: gasoline inventories are at their lowest early-September levels since 2008, when inventories were low because of Hurricane Ike. This time around its Hurricane Isaac that closed a good chunk of refining and production capacity, and we're again paying the price at the pump.

Monday, we talked about the national average hitting a September high, and part of the reason we're at this point is because of gasoline inventories. Currently, inventories stand at 197.7 million barrels, according to the EIA. Last September, inventories stood at 208.8 million barrels, and back in September 2010, they were at 225 million barrels. Pretty decent size decline when compared to previous years, most certainly.

Everyone is blaming Isaac. Guess what, it isn't Isaac.

"This was not a storm that bent metal, like Hurricanes Katrina or Ike," said Tim Evans, energy analyst at Citigroup in New York. "I expect refineries that shut down completely to take time to come back after thorough inspections. Offshore production will be restored gradually over several days."

Several days! The fact that we are exporting more oil than importing is the issue. That is stright from the EIA.

Get rid of this administration in November.

GREED by Big Oil.

Too much oil is just sitting in storage. Get those refineries up to full production of winter gasoline and diesel.

People should stop going on 'road trips' on the labourday weekend, because that just compounds the issue with hurricane season closing down refineries.

It's the same thing every year.

As long as there is only one culprit (winter blend, big oil, speculators, politics, refining capacity, economy, customer behavior, etc.) the issue of prices is incompletely analyzed. But the human mind seems to focus on one issue.
