Telecommute! I know that isn't an option for everyone. Maybe that should be an upcoming poll or poll series: is it possible in your job; your company; how many times a week/month/year....

Heard all those before. Try walking to the Neighborhood Pub, save gas and getting pinched with a DUI.

Now if wife wife would understand/believe this, maybe we could save on gas... but no, little miss "I got to be there now, so I'm gonna floor it from stop light to stop light" - geeze!

I do everything I can think of to increase mileage. I would love to carpool but I work in management and I work crazy hours that nobody is willing to put in.

AvantiMick, I suggest you think about your posting of getting the same fuel mileage with a fully loaded car as when it is just you. If you own a wheel barrow try moving it empty, then full. You are going to use more energy moving the full wheel barrow.

I bought Nitr tires, drive 69 mph on the pike and don't carry extra weight unless I have the kids, so I think I have all of these covered.

This does not make sense. How does the engine in your vehicle know that you are driving over (or under) the speed limit? Only the driver knows.

How about driving less? How about a more fuel efficient vehicle? How often is the vehicle filled with passengers? How big a vehicle is required? Myself included. These are the questions I will have to face when I make my next purchase.

I use to carpool and would love to take public transit, but I would have to leave at least another 1 hour earlier and no one works the same hours I do. I carpooled for 18 years and it was great.

Mass transportation is one good answer, carpooling ( not logical ) are other ways to save, but neither is practical to everyone...so toos them out the door and read the list above !

I drive a 2003 Dodge Stratus. Traveling at 55 MPH, and leaving a little earlier to avoid traffic and maintain that speed, (no stop and go) does allow me to get 30 to 31 MPG versus 70 MPH which drops the MPG to 27.
This does add up to more money in my pocket. Enjoy the ride and arrive less harried.
My city has poor mass transit, so I must drive to work.

Toyota, I believe if you took off the doors and trunk lid you would lose economy because of air drag.

This news article is not right. Should we get rid of everything in our car to make it lighter? Hmm well lets see, the spare tire, don't need that. Don't wear clothes either. They add a few pounds. Toss them out too. Take off the doors and trunk lid also. extra weight that can be dumped. Lets see, just drive a jeep. It fits this stupid articles idea of less weight in the car.

Let me throw in another tip, when the weather is bad, just stay home, Even if you have snow tires, you will use more gas and probably run into some dummy who hasn't and has snarled up traffic.
