The nations leaders cannot tax and spend their way out of the DEBT chasm they have fallen into over the past 50 years.

Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule.
Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts Anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his ***.
Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid.
Put these words Upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.

The roads still need to be maintained...with cars getting higher MPG, its inevitable that the taxes are going to rise for States to get the revenue it needs.

well, the idiots here voted "yes" on a tricky ballot question a few years ago that allows our local RTC to "index" gas taxes with the CPI, which means when the cost of living goes up, so do our gas taxes. i will always maintain that the people did NOT understand what they were voting for.

Higher taxes, but less maintenance. And those electric cars, they don't pay fuel taxes. Gov needs a better idea to tax them for the roads.

Appears the Federalization of the education system has created ever dumber citizens! Basic gas taxes are per gallon - and that is not a percentage tax. The Federal gas tax is paid on every gallon for over-the-road usage. And most all states have same type system for state gas tax.
But recently, many states started to add sales tax on top of the gas tax. It is factored into the price paid at the pump but slaes tax is a percentage tax so goes ever higher with higher prices.
It has long been obvious that most posters to this website are economic idiots. And they also flunked math class.

The info on which this blog is based may be somewhat dated, as prices at the pump here in Okieville are sliding ever so much more slowly than they rose, but at many stations ethanol goes for about 30ยข gallon less than it did three weeks ago.

Ditto GreenLedgend, gas tax is a percentage rateso it has indeed risen to all time highs, therefore we should be reducing the tax !!!

Unbelievable! Who do they think they are?? Gasoline taxes are a percentage tax, so they have already risen with gas prices. LOWER THE TAXES!

Yeah, but what you aren't reporting is that all the production is coming off of private lands. Not federal lands. We want the oil on federal lands, too!!! And, we want and need it now. While the prices are high.

The States will raise taxes to recoup the revenue lost by smaller demand, instead of reducing spending.

Want more to "repair roads", but spend it elsewhere, so we get to "repair" shocks and front end tie rods and joints, etc.
