I grew up watching Peter Jennings. (very vaugely remember his predecessor Frank Reynolds). Peter was a classic.

When I moved out on my own, I tried watching the other networks each for a week just to see what I'd been missing living at home. Week 3 brought me back to ABC.

What I remember most are his "Answering Children's Questions" specials that he did after Challenger and 9/11. That showed a side of him that did not show behind the anchor desk.

ABC has some big shoes to fill. Katrina coverage just doesn't seem right without Peter at the anchor desk.

It was sad. (I didn't see this topic til now)
I'm a FOX News fan myself.
But Peter Jennings was well known & loved by many.

I am amazed both here and KevinsView.com this topic seems to be drawing no comments. While he wasn't the 1st anchor I watched, he will be missed.

My sympathies are with his friends and family.

Although I hate to say it, sometimes it takes the death of a well known person to raise awareness of a certain disease. I've heard lots of reports that state that numbers of people are ditching the habit of smoking because of his death. If one good thing comes about his death, it's that it could save thousands each year from first hand and second hand smoke. I believe Jennings would feel proud that he had the chance to help so many.
