No, I don't have asthma. However, my wife has adult asthma. Since we have moved to the Mojave Desert her symptoms have gone away ... and her hyper tension! Ah, the pleasure of it!

I have asthma. I was diagnosed when I was a baby. I take singulair and use my albuterol inhaler as needed. Its pretty much under control now and I am 21.

Thanks, HeilmanChiro. Will research this!
My mum had osteoporosis, so I have a predisposition. Also, 2 different eye doctors have alerted me that I might be at risk for glaucoma, which I see is another possible side effect of Advair. However, I started using Advair last September, and the first eye doctor alerted me to glaucoma in January of 2006, a full 8 months before.
If I already have a predisposition to these 2 conditions, I certainly don't want to be making them worse.

Advair is a steroid medication, which has a lot of negative side effects including a devestating effect on bone density when used long term.
I would strongly encourage you to attempt a more natural strategy. Try taking the highest quality Omega-3 fish oil supplements that you can find - (research the topic) - most stores carry low potency Omega-3 supplements - target the EPA levels per capsule at 300 - 400 mg -and take 3 capsules per day until your syptoms are GONE - then go to 1 - 2 capsules per day. I recommend getting the ones with lemon oil and/or are enteric coated to avoid the fish tasting "repeat."
Another supplement that may be of help is B12 - WITH intrinsic factor (helps the absorbancy of B12).
I predict that if these two supplements were administered to all asthmatics and other breathing issues - the pharmaceutical industry would be devestated by the loss of product sales.

I was diagnosed with asthma 20 years ago, in my 20s, and have had it ever since. My mum had asthma and COPD, so I guess I have an inherited predisposition to lung problems. My dad was a smoker, which made things worse for me and my mum. She had emphysema, despite never having smoked a day in her life, which "miraculously" stopped getting worse when my dad passed away. Hmm, go figure.
I am on 2 medications for asthma - one is Advair, a maintenance med to keep me breathing, and the other is albuterol when I need a rescue inhaler.
I went on Advair last fall, and within 1 month my lung function increased 50%. Incredible. I feel like I can do almost anything.

I had asthma up until 18 months ago. Once I began taking 600 mg of EPA from Omega-3 fish oil - the symptoms dissapeared in 2 weeks. Whereas I used to use an inhaler at least daily. I quickly ceased using the inhaler and within the first 6 months following the initial 2 weeks I used 3 puffs for the entire 6 months. It has now been 18 months since I last used in inhaler.
Cold weather and dust and exposure to lifestock feeds and cold weather were my triggers.

I had a really bad cold that went into my lungs and became bronchitis. Then, the bronchitis turned to a cough that would not go away and major fatigue from all the coughing. I don't know how I kept going for so long through 2 rounds of prednisone and gaining 40lbs from the prednisone I took for 2 months (and I've never lost that 40lbs!) and all sorts of inhalers and antibiotics. I also don't know why the people I worked near didn't insist that I go home and stay til the constant cough was gone. And I had to do business with a whispering raspy voice. This all started in my early 40s.
Finally sent to repiratory specialist and he gave me 2 inhalers and diagnosed me with "reactive airway disease". The 2 inhalers had my coughing stopped within 3 days.
I hate that reactive airway disease is considered in the medical field and with the American Lung Assoication to be asthma since I only have episodes if I have a cold and it goes to my lungs. I did have reflux that had some aspiration into lungs and caused a reactive airway episode. Occassionally somehthing in the air during allergy season can cause an episode, but 99% of the time I have no "asthma". When I have an episode, I pull out the old inhalers and I recover within a few days, except if a cold or aspiration require antibiotics.
