When my kids were young, I had them wash their faces with soap and cornmeal, it scrubbed their faces well. Then rinse. Then I had them wipe their faces with peroxide and diluted Betadine. hey hardly ever had acne. It worked for them.

Lots of washing of the skin to remove the bacteria that causes the acne. Also drink lots of water as it seems to clean out the body system and there is less bacteria to accumulate.

I don't believe sugar has anything to do with acne itself... inflammitory or not. I am a sugar-a-holic and I don't have acne. Acne is more prevelant in teen years in my opinion. My step-son had really bad acne starting at age 13. It would flare up when he went with his dad for several weeks over the summer. What we found was to just make sure they are showering daily, washing their hair and cleansing their face. So when my step-son came back to our house, after about a week or bathing normally and using facial masks and anti-septics, his face would be almost "zit-less". Acne is caused by bacteria in the pores that get stuck in there and cause whiteheads or blackheads. I would also recommend to not pick or squeeze pimples with fingernails as that can cause skin damage and pitting.

I really like a product by Neutrogena called Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask. It works great, but if his skin gets dry easy, he may only want to use it every other day and wash with a mild soap on the "off" days.

Just had to post this. I know people swear by Accutane, but be very careful with it! I had a brother and a sister who took it. We nearly lost my brother. For some it affects them mentally. Yes, his acne cleared up beautifully, but at a great price. Check the literature and speak with your Dr. about this. It is documented. Many have problems with this drug. My sister on the other hand did quite well on it.

Accutane worked wonders on my son, who had tried just about everything else (both Rx + OTC.) The side effects were VERY dry skin (especially lips) and a rapid heartbeat. In his case the benefits far outweighed the risks.

Acne is an inflammatory disease caused by two primary factors: high cortisol levels, and rapid rises in blood sugar that cause an insulin response. Both factors also cause your body to crave carbs, store fat, and gain weight. If you can control cortisol levels and prevent rapid rises in blood sugar you can reduce or eliminate acne and heal your body from the inside out.
A rapid rise in blood sugar causes an insulin response in the body, which then causes an inflammatory response. Remember this simple fact: whatever food we eat is converted to sugar as it is digested. Different foods are converted to sugar at varying rates. If we consume foods that are rapidly converted to sugar, that is considered pro-inflammatory. Pro-inflammatory foods cause all kinds of problems in the body resulting from a rapid rise in blood sugar, which in turn sparks a burst of inflammation on a cellular level. As our insulin rises, this triggers more inflammation throughout the body.
The cornerstone of the anti-inflammatory diet is the careful regulation of blood sugar. It is crucial to understand the relationship between the food we eat and its effect on blood sugar levels.
The Anti-Inflammatory Diet The key to this diet is preventing rapid rises in blood sugar that create an insulin response which in turn causes an inflammatory response. Start by following these guidelines:
•Eliminate sugar from your diet •Stick to low glycemic carbs •Eat 5-6 smaller meals a day •Eat food rich in antioxidants (blueberries, cantaloupe, green vegetables) •Eat foods that provide essential fatty acids(flaxseeds, olive oil, almonds) •Eat high quality protein (salmon, turkey, chicken, non-GMO soy products) •Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day •Drink green or black tea instead of coffee (no soda pop not even diet) •Reduce iodine intake

Go to a dermatologist, diet has very little to with much of it, I was allergic to salycitic acid when i was young and almost every product used that. I went to a wonderful dermatologist and she prescribed a very mild cream that helped tremendously. I was ashamed before I saw her and within 2 weeks I saw remarkable improvement.
Sugar in the body is converted to glycogen and thus has little to do with skin acne, the oils in certain types of chocolate and some candies have a much greater effect on the skin than sugar. Oils in the body are either broken down to be used for energy or are excreted (sometimes via the pores on the skin)

Stop eating sugar. Get started with a good Dermatologist and stick to the regime.
Some over the counter stuff that works to some degree is Clearasil Benzol Peroxide, Queen Helene's Mint Mask which has sulfur and clay and dries up pimples pretty fast.

I would reccomend using SpectroGel or SpectroDerm, its the best on the over-the-counter market to use. For the first week or two it can make your acne a little worse, but after that it is gone, only the occassional blemish. You just need to get past the initial breakout that it takes for your skin to adjust to and react to the active ingredients

A few months ago I had the same problem, my dad ordered the Proactiv solution, and it really does work. I have been using it for about 5 months now and my face is clear.

Like the others, I highly recommend a dermatologist for help. My parents did when I was young, and it saved my face from being so scared from the pimples I did have. I am sure there are a lot of advances since the 60s and early 70s, but they did a technique to get the puss out of pimples, used sunlamp on my face and I had tetracycline to take orally and a sulfa solution to put on my face to dry up the pimples.
For those with the occassional zit, I highly recommend Principal Secret's Blemish Buster. Can be bought from QVC. It has sulfa in it and will dry up most small pimples overnight.

Take him to the Doctor; there is a cream in a little round container (I can't think of the name), it's expensive but worked well for my son. He had real bad acne for a few of his early teen years 12-15. His face is now clear and he is 17.

Invbest in a good dermatatologist if it is really bad... cheaper in the long run and stops the acne scarring. Ihave always found plain old Clearasil works the best.
