Still down over the series loss, but we were a battered and beaten bunch, just got to give credit to the Rays, they were the better team this series. Hard not to root for either managers in the World Series, both Charlie Manuel and Joe Maddon are class acts.

ə i was somewhat distressed that the rays let game five get away so badly, and then lost the sixth one, but at least they're in the series! as usual, i'll root for the a. l. team, so go rays! ə

Congrats to the Rays - great series, great finish - the AL East is definitely the best division in the MLB right now, and this is a great new rivalry in the making.
Go get the Phillies + really Tampa/St. Pete area into a frenzy!!

Congrats to the Rays!
Garza was on again and wins the LCS MVP, which I thought would have gone to Upton during the middle of game 5. Either way they both had a great series, as well as Longoria.
The Rays are a formidable young team and should take it to the Phillies.

Well, even if the Sox win they have to go home (Boston) to start the Series.

Stellar performance from both Beckett + the bull-pen - going to be a thriller tonight! No way Lester has another meltdown like in the last game - another late night on deck . . .

Beckett pitched in and out of trouble. He looked a lot better than in Game 2. Sox have the mojo now. I think TB is in trouble.

Beckett still doesn't seem right though - the Sox will have to get to Shields, and then hope they can win the battle of the bullpens (yikes)

All these "experts" are blaming Joe Madden for going to his bullpen too soon. Baloney! Kazmir may've been tired and the Rays' bullpen had been very reliable, until that game. The pen should get the blame for the loss, not Madden.
These "experts" are also saying that the Rays still have the advantage, since the last 2 games are in TB. We'll see. Who knows how they will respond after such a horrible loss.

Zim, I knew Percival was out, but had never looked at Balfour's stats. Tough one. We'll see what happens in game 6, but this will feel like you have to win 5 games instead of 4 for the Rays.

Tired but happy this morning - what a comeback! Never count those Red Sox out - you never know when those bats will come back to life. Now let's see if they can carry it over to game 6 - we need Beckett to be Beckett . . .

What a great comeback by the never-say-die Red Sox. Biggest post-season rally since the Philadelphia Athletics came back from 8 down on the Cubs in the 1929 World Series. longhorn, Balfour was a dominant set-up man in the regular season (6-2 1.54ERA, 0.89WHIP) and the White Sox couldn't hit him. The Rays are without Troy Percival, but their bullpen had been solid up until last night.
I think Madden figured the bullpen could hold a 7 run lead and the top of that inning was a long one for Kazmir to be out. I'd have left him in too.
A couple other mistakes cost the Rays as well. BJ Upton playing too shallow on the double in the 8th, Gabe Gross not diving for what looked like a catchable ball from Pedroia in the 7th, and of course Longoria's error in the 9th.

And the Rays are on to the World.....wait, not quite yet. Ouch, that one's going to hurt for awhile. Why do they bring in this Balfour who hasn't gotten anybody out? Are they THAT thin in the pen? If so, leave Kazmir in.

I'm with you colocolo - I won't begrudge the Rays their celebration (if they win the series, that is ;-p), just rather not see it on the field at Fenway . . .
Be interesting to see how this move by Maddon works out, moving Kazmir up in the rotation - hopefully it will give the Sox the spark they need to come back from 3-1 AGAIN !!

No it's not over, although the body language of the Bosox players would tell you otherwise. But they can win tonight if Dice-K is anywhere close to his brilliant performance of Game 1.
But winning 2 in a row in TB is a tall order, especially if Beckett can't pitch like his old self.

This series is not over yet. Remember, these are the "Boston Red Sox", lately just thee toughest team to eliminate in a series, fighting off elimination better than anyone has...They will come around, Dice-K will pitch another gem and you can bet your bottom dollar Beckett and Lester both will be much, much better next time out. The Rays just better keep doing what they're doing and not get caught in the moment and fall apart, they still have to win that game 4, and it's not going to be easy. The Sox also have been through this before, and there is a lot to be said about post-season experience. The one thing the Rays don't have, that's for sure. Sox in 7, said so from the beginning. KEEP THE FAITH

Sox are in a deep hole - hopefully Dice-K can prevent a celebration on the field at Fenway . . . bad time for the Sox bats to go quiet

Sox in a must win situation tonight - here's hoping that knuckler gets the job done tonight - maybe Kevin Cash will have a big night at the plate - they need someone to wake up offensively.

Game 2 - this is the kind of stuff the Rays did to the Red Sox all season long - could be a bad omen of things to come. Hopefully Lester can hold down the fort in Game 3. And hopefully we've seen the last of Timlin coming out of the bull-pen - the guy has been an integral part of the Red Sox success in the last couple of years (especially during the 2004 WS run) but he is a shadow of his former self.

I want the Rays to win so bad. But it looks to me like the Sox have the experience and the pitching to take them to a 6-game series win.
Expect a few fracases in this series, most likely involving Balfour.

Both teams look very strong coming off their respective series - Sox have experience on their side, but the Rays have a very powerful youth movement + enthusiasm on their side. I have to say the initial edge goes to the Rays - they're healthier + younger, and have home-field advantage. But anything can happen in October . . .+
Should be a great series - here's hoping it goes 7 + that every game is a thriller!!
