(They also didn't lose to the Lakers this year in five games, they took the champs to the full seven games) That's nice but Spurs made it to the Western Conf Finals? Cavs?

Shaq's right. Kobe couldn't win w/o him. Kobe needs a big body to protect and do the rebounding. Gasol is toooooooo skinny to go up aganst those 250 pounders.

With far less supporting players than Kobe has. Not to mention, Lebron didn't completely get taken out of his game like Kobe did.
They also didn't lose to the Lakers this year in five games, they took the champs to the full seven games.

One thing is for certain, Lebron would not have "settled" for the shots that Kobe took. He would have attacked the basket, like Kobe SHOULD have done. That's why the Cavs, with a team inferior to the Lakers, took the Celtics to seven games, and didn't lose at home.
As I recall, James put up 40+ on the Celtics in game seven too.

I guess the "best player on the planet" thankfully won't be heard much any more.
I kept wondering if LeBron had suddenly been traded to the Lakers for the finals or something.

Kobe needs more physical help inside. He really misses Bynum not playing. Wait till next season, the Lakers will have Bynum, Gasol and Odum in the front court. They will have to be the favorite for 2009.

Kobe Bryant, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around.
They came to a modest little house with a faded Los Angeles Lakers’ flag in the window.
"This house is yours for eternity, Kobe," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here."
Kobe felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house.
On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner.
It was a 3-story mansion with a brilliant Black, Silver & White sidewalk, a 50 ft. tall flagpole flying an enormous San Antonio Spurs flag, and in every window a Spurs logo.
Kobe looked at God and said "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question: I won 3 NBA Championships, more awards than I can remember and am one of the greatest players of all time."
God said "So what do you want to know, Kobe?"
"Well, why does Tim Duncan get a better house than me?"
God chuckled and said "Kobe, that's not Tim's house, ..it's MINE."

Simple, underestimate your opponent. Not a smart thing to do when that opponent has a chip on their shoulder because no one believes they belong there. The caliber of their game has improved with the caliber of the opponent. I expect that trend to continue into the Finals.
Not sure who will win it, but it should be a close series.

How could the Celtics get stretched to 7 games against the Hawks? Lakers are the more athletic team with a strong bench. Kobe is the facilitator and scorer when needed.

It's easy to look like you dominate when you take the shots nearly every possession. I would have liked to see him get the others involved just a bit more. They almost began to fall into the "stand back and watch Kobe do his thing" mode. If that happens the Lakers lose, especially against the Celtics. The boys from Boston know how to play a little defense themselves.

It looks like Kobe may be going back to his old ways. He did not allow his teammates to participate in game 4. Lakers won't have any more trouble with The Spurs but what if Kobe goes headcase again in the finals?

Kobe made it interesting at the end of game 4, by taking the shot instead of bringing it back out and killing the clock.

Game 4 might also be interesting in that will the Lakers be able to overcome a demoralizing 20 pt loss to the slower, older, less athletic Spurs, in which their much heralded MVP could not lead them back to a win.

Kobe showed last night why he deserved the MVP trophy this year. He scored 25 in the 2nd half and was instrumental in shutting down the Spurs in the 4th quarter. The Lakers earned the win last night. I think it will go a long way to showing the team, especially the back-ups, that they ARE capable of going to the Finals this year.
When you can come from twenty down in the third quarter to the defending NBA champs, and win the game, you know you have a strong team. They still need to find someone though who can slow down Duncan and take away about 30% of his rebounds.

so they would have maybe, but not for sure, probably, but possibly could've been different, we'll never know but most likely would have?

Hey JP, I'm still waiting for the football season to get started. I'm hoping that my Chargers can build momentum and make a run at the playoffs again.
Hornets and Spurs will be a great game tonight. I'm very impressed by Chris Paul. I hope they win, so that the Lakers get a shot at him.

Suns and Mavs are no longer in the playoffs and the Spurs are about to be eliminated by the Hornets.

LOS ANGELES - Kobe Bryant asked to be traded last spring in part because he wanted to play for a team that could contend for a championship. He just might have gotten his wish by staying put.
Bryant scored 26 of his 38 points in the second half, Andrew Bynum had a career-high 28 points to go with 12 rebounds and a season-high four assists, and the Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns 122-115 on Tuesday for their ninth win in 11 games.

NEW YORK - Kobe Bryant scored 39 points, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach 20,000, and the Los Angeles Lakers held off the New York Knicks 95-90 Sunday.
Bryant added 11 rebounds and eight assists in his first game at Madison Square Garden in nearly two years. His 3-pointer in the opening minute of the third quarter allowed him to reach the milestone at 29 years, 122 days.
Before him, only Wilt Chamberlain (29, 134) and Michael Jordan (29, 326) had gotten there before turning 30.

John Paxson has announced that talks between the Bulls and Lakers are off, and has downplayed the notion that a deal was near. He has not ruled out talks reopening later.
Yes, Diddy, Kobe made his own bed and he now has to lie in it.

I think he's stonewalling the Lakers so he can opt out and leave them with nothing.
Dr. Buss gave him everything he wanted a few years ago, including getting rid of Shaq and this is the way Kobe repays him!
Good-for-nothing mal-content. I think the NBA ought to make him sit out an entire season so that he could see the game would be just fine without him. Come to think of it, MLB should do the same for A-Rod! Seriously, does he really think he's worth $200mil?

The "Trade Kobe" soap opera deepens. There was a possible 3-way deal between the Lakers, Bulls, and Kings that is now dead.
Mark Cuban announced yesterday that the Mavs are not interested.
There's still deep discussions between the Bulls and Lakers. But Kobe has vowed to nix any deal involving Luol Deng.
For ANY deal to come through, Kobe, as well as the Lakers and the trading partner(s) must all approve. Since that seems difficult, the Lakers could be stuck with an unhappy Kobe for the season.
Stay tuned!

...correction: 45 points, 18 in the 4th quarter.
Kobe was loudly booed during pregame intros and early in the game. But they quickly turned to cheers as he nearly singlehandedly brought the Lakers back from a 14-point deficit.
Kobe did blame himself for the loss, but Luke Walton and Kwame Brown tipping a sure rebound into the wrong basket, didn't help.

I don't think wilt's record will ever be broken. 100 points divided by 48 minutes = 2.08333 points per minute. Remember when they fed David Robinson all game long on the last game of the regular season to win a scoring title? He finished the game with 71 points.

I think Kobe is one of the better players in the NBA, but he is way too self-centered, thinking more about himself vs. the team as a whole. I just don't know who we could get to compliment him or get in a trade to re-tool the team...
