Evaluating last week's prediction for this week, I said "By next Monday, I expect the U.S. national average to rise to $3.09 per gallon while prices in Canada will rise to 112.1c/L." Looking at our latest GasBuddy pricing data, we show the U.S. average at $3.080 per gallon while prices in Canada are coming in at 112.0c/L. Somewhat surprising that U.S. prices barely moved this week.

While spot markets are closed today for the MLK holiday, electronic trading is open with light volume. Futures today are down slightly over a penny, but we saw wholesale prices rise late last week as I indicated on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Having said that, retail prices haven't moved up much yet in response to last week's wholesale increases...

hmmm... retail goes up NOW for FUTURES to be delivered in FEBRUARY or MARCH? Make the specutraitors take possession of at least 5% of their futures when they "buy" and that stops the sitution really fast.

Commodities and future markets only took off after Bush 43's deregulation of the oil market in the US.

Cheney, you are right. Whine about too much government intrusion on one hand, but then hand rights over to goverment by the handfuls.

By the way Obahma or however you spell his name hasn't done a darn bit of good for this country. We are all sinking financially, no COLA for the past 2 yrs. I barely have enough to live off of as it is. Now higher gas prices....just like when Bush was in office. He's living comfortably down in TX. counting his millions while the majority of hard working Americans are scrambling to pay the bills!
I'm not slamming either one of them, but what have they done for US The People of this country?

Where I live, when it comes to the warmer months, they screw us over even more and change the fuel mixtures and raise the prices! Lovely Iowa. Hate it here.
Our gas jumped 14 cents since last night. $3.19 a gallon.

More money spent on gas by consumers means less to be spent on other goods.

At least in a few months warmer weather will get here, and maybe I'll be able to ride my bike to work. What they ought to do is require the speculators to take physical delivery of the oil. That would end the price hike real quick, but they'd get their yarmulkes in a bunch and start crying.

I'm amused how Americans blame government for what is unsavoury, yet resist regulation and taxes.

The oil could be at $1.00 per barrel and the government would still let big oil charge us $4.00 a gallon. This is just a money game and we are Loosing it.

Thank Obama for cutting off 10 percent of our supply to keep prices high. Gasoline prices should have hit the lowest of the year last month, but instead they continued to climb. Prices will only go higher until we start drilling again in the Gulf.

Not interested in this pat-myself-on-the-back for sometimes guessing gas prices correctly. Most of us do it just as well without all the business-major gobbeldy-gook.

I had expected them to move down a bit, but with the Alaskan pipeline deal...I expect higher prices still; but only a bit more before going downward a bit. Unless, the government and others continue to lie about unemployment, other commodities continue to rise, the dollar continues to fall which I believe it'll rise a bit before they let it fall further.
