Amoco used to tout itself as having no contaminants in its Gold. I don't know truth of it but I long ago tried using it on two vans that had failed emissions testing. One tank first to clean system, and then second tank to go in for last chance testing. NO TUNEUP, NO REPAIRS, NO CHANGE EXCEPT GAS AND THEY BOTH PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS. Also seems to help start car in very cold weather. I only use it once in a while to clean the engine, to pass emissions test, and for very cold weather. I am a believer !

Used to use it as Coleman camping lantern fuel. They called it white gas.

I don't know if it is still the same with BP.

Sounds like running a "premium" fuel through your system to clean it out.

=> I find it very hard to believe that the additive package of any brand in just 2 tanks of that brand could have been responsible for your success. <=

I do too. I doubt that's what was going on. A lot of things aside from the gas could have influenced things in the interim. I remember a Toyauto I had, it failed the emissions but the guy handed me the keys and said "take it out and open it up". So I tore around the streets a bit, gave it some aerobics, and pulled back into the gas station. This time it too passed with flying colors.

All of the Amoco stations in this area are now BP stations.

If it works for you, I'm glad you're happy. Personally, I opt for the 87 octane fuel

We first started using the top grade of Amoco (Hi-Test it was called) around 1964. Some called it white gas. I believe it was sold as lead-free back then. I would let it sit all winter in small engines such as lawn mowers, garden tillers, two-cycle chain saws, and motor-boat engines. Never had a problem with gumming up carburetors, even if the gas all dried up. When the last station in the area (BP at Centerville Rd and Hempland Rd) selling Amoco fuels went out of business we lost access to Amoco in the Lancaster area. Anybody know where to get Amoco in the Lancaster area?

By the way. When did this happen?
The testing in Illinois changed 5-6) years ago from a true tail pipe emission test to a simple reading of any stored codes in the emissions computer. If your CEL was never, on or has been on and the codes were cleared and the car driven without the CEL coming back on, your car passes.

True maintroll, but different additives and detergents are added at the terminal that give each brand their uniqueness.

All gas in a given area comes from but one pipeline and terminal, no matter what these so called brands claim.
