What could be done to improve the GasBuddy iPhone app?

I would like to see more web site integration overall, especially poll and forum participation features.

Updated this morning. Like the new look. Only thing I don't like is the ad at the top. Like the new awards. Would like to know a bit more about them. I guess, if I get to other levels, I'll figure them out.

I would love to see the app link with the iPhone GPS, and show me lowest prices along a route entered. I travel for business,(423 miles today,) and would love an easy way to find the cheapest gas stations along, or within 1 mile of a specific route.

Since updating to v1.09, the first time I click on the "find gas near me" icon, it will not load any stations. The app shows that it is thinking. This continues indefinitely, (i've waited 7 min. max.) Everytime I click back to "home" and hit the "find gas near me" again, it will load fine.

Thanks mymren. I updated my app, and really like the new version. I did not lose any info, in fact the new version actually corrected some things (like gas buddy age) that were incorrect in the old app.

My only request for an improvement is pulling my comments from my favorites list.
Such as: Members Only or Diesel is -06 cents w/ cash

Thanks GasBuddy!!!

Over all I like the new App update. I think the fuel price based awards is a great idea. Posting prices is what this is all about, not saying “good, I agree, or 53.” I think this is the way to encourage honest price posts without promoting faults updates. I like the new feature that keeps you centered in the map and the new look. I just wish the prices on the map were larger. I have a hard time seeing them.
One last request with the award part. After you unlock them the explanation should be viewable so we can remember the goal of each award.

I also updated to the new v1.09 iPhone app and did not lose any info. It remembered my login and everything looks fine. A little nicer graphics and such, and as mymren noted there is an ad at the top of the station list. Other than that, they added some "Awards" for posting that depend on when and how often you post prices, etc.

DiianeRG, I like it fine I think. I input into it this morning versus the computer, that part seemed the same - no it didn't loose any information (that I have discovered anyway) The logos look a little nicer, but there is an add at the top of stations listing now, don't remember that from before. I thought I would have to log back in again, but it already me remembered.

Mymren- when you updated the app, did you lose any info? Last time I updated, I lost some history. Let me know how you like the update. I've held off on downloading.

I downloaded the update this morning. Of course that was after I got to work and had finished my entries. Has a different look to it, haven't tried it yet for entering prices.

I would like to see the fuel log added to the iPhone app as well. The sorting of stations by last updated is a neat thought also!

@Roteque totally agree. the iphone app blows hence my original thread on the subject http://vancouvergasprices.com/Forum_MSG.aspx?master=&category=1055&topic=429896&page_no=1&FAV=Y

And giving all the various issues with Android OS, I am still amazed how the Android version is better than the iPhone and Gasbuddy has been promising improvements but has not fallen through on the improving the app.

The fuel logbook in the app would be nice, but I just write down my odometer mileage on my receipt and enter it when I get to the computer.

Fuel logbook integration into the Iphone app is a must. Every time I fill up, I like to log it, but I have to use the web browser to do it, and that's a huge pain.

I don't know about E85 on the site or app (you can't buy E85 in Louisiana), but it would be nice for an E-Zero flag or something. I'm taking about a 30% hit on mileage with E-10 and they're about to authorize E-15 here. We have the cheapest gas in the country, but I might as well be paying $4.50 a gallon. I've also ruined my gas edger with the E-10 gas.

Coming into work this morning, I updated most of the stations along the way on my app. About 4 of the stations did not update, but all the others did. Some sort of a glitch?

I agree with fuel log integration into the phone app! It would be so convenient to do my log entry the same time I'm doing my price updates!

Adding Fuel Logbook to the mobile app would be great, being able to input fuel purchases right at the pump.

Sometimes I put in city, state and it does not find any stations. Then it gives me stations that are at least an hour away when there are many closer that have prices. Example: search for Hospers, IA and I get are Sioux City stations. Entering the zip code 51238 shows closer stations. There are other towns in NW Iowa that have the same issue. I am logged into my Iowa ID when I try this. People can be looking for gas stations or emergency service stations in a town where they are headed and might not know the zip code, but only know the name of the town.

alisdad725 - The site has Favorite Stations Lists. They appear under the lowest and highest stations lists on the home page. I know you can access them from the android app so I assume the same capability exists for the iphone app.

Adding stations to the FSL can be done in a few different ways. The easiest is probably to go to the map, zoom in until you see price balloons, change the time in the lower right hand corner of the map to Show All Stations, click on the station you want to add, after it expands, click on the star. It is now in your FSL. If you are posting prices using the Report A Price feature on the home page, simply check the Add To My Favorite Stations box in the lower left hand corner. It is now in your FSL. There are ways to do it from the app but I've never tried it, so I don't know how it works.

You can add comments to the stations in your FSL such as special pricing for gas discounts or members discounts for grocery stores and the like. Those comments will be stored so you never have to enter them again. You will also want to edit the FSL so that the Sort Order comes in the order you see your stations as you take your route. I believe the default sort order is alphabetical.

One change or addition to the iPhone app I would like to see is ability to sort according to most recent update. When gas prices are changing, it's nice to be able to sort according to how long ago the price was reported for a station. It would help to more easily find a station that has lower prices.
