Well, that sure will be a pain in the arse. Sure would be nice to be able to run truck traffic up 35E during this period since there are very few other reasonable options in the east Metro.

If you use the Lafayette Bridge (especially if you drive a vehicle with a combined length of more than 35 ft.):
Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge open house scheduled for Dec. 4
[quote] All interested parties are invited to attend an open house to learn more about a traffic crossover MnDOT is building from the existing Lafayette Bridge to the new northbound bridge.
In late January or early February 2013, no vehicle combinations of more than 35 feet in length will be allowed to use the Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge spanning the Mississippi River until the crossover is removed in late November 2013.
The open house will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Neighborhood House at 179 Robie Street East in St. Paul.
Open House attendees will be able to learn the details of the project, view project layouts and detour information and ask questions of MnDOT and the city of St. Paul project staff. [unquote]

I had reason Thursday to travel to the frontage road on the south side of I-494, west of Hwy 169.
I was coming from the east, and was pretty sure I could not gain access to the "ring" surrounding the interchange. So I continued north to Valley View, turned right onto the east frontage road along 169, crossed under to W 78th St, took the roundabout to Washington Ave, then south across the 494 freeway to the south frontage road.
All in all, it was a bit complicated and the signs are not all in place. But I hate to think what it must have been like for the businesses these last several years. For them the detours probably took them to Prairie Center Drive.
This will relieve some of the pressure on the Valley View interchange, which has been a real mess during the afternoon rush hour.

The official end of the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange project:
Hwy 169/I-494 interchange ribbon cutting ceremony takes place Nov. 29
[quote] MnDOT and local governments will celebrate the completion of the Hwy 169/I-494 Interchange reconstruction project at a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, Nov. 29.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Hellmuth and Johnson, LLP, 8050 West 78th Street in Edina in the 4th floor conference room. The program includes remarks from local dignitaries.
Construction began at the interchange in late 2010 and included converting the current expressway into a freeway by rebuilding the interchange with six ramps instead of eight. The performance-based design removes traffic signals, reduces congestion and improves safety. Additionally the service roads surrounding the interchange were also reconstructed and six new roundabouts were installed. [unquote]

If you're traveling in the vicinity of Xerxes & Hwy 62 (the Crosstown), be aware that a westbound vehicle struck the overpass.
Right lane of northbound Xerxes Avenue at Hwy 62 closed through Dec. 15:
[quote] Motorists traveling northbound on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge spanning Hwy 62 (Crosstown) in Minneapolis may experience delays through mid-December as the right lane of the bridge is closed.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on Hwy 62 struck a beam on the Xerxes Avenue Bridge on Monday, Nov. 26. The right lane of the northbound Xerxes Avenue Bridge will remain closed until crews can make the proper repairs.
Crews expect the northbound lanes of the bridge to re-open by Saturday, Dec. 15. [unquote]

If you use Kellogg Blvd., east of downtown St. Paul, in the evening or overnight period:
Watch for night-time Kellogg Boulevard closures Nov. 28-Dec. 1; Lafayette Bridge project continues
[quote] Both directions of Kellogg Boulevard will close overnight between Mounds Boulevard and Sibley Avenue beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 1.
Kellogg Boulevard will reopen by 5 a.m. daily Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.
The closure is necessary as crews erect the beams across Kellogg Boulevard for the Lafayette Bridge.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detours.
• Eastbound Kellogg Boulevard motorists will be able to access Sibley Avenue to eastbound 7th Street to southbound Mounds Boulevard to Kellogg Boulevard.
• Westbound Kellogg Boulevard motorists will be able to access Mounds Boulevard to westbound 7th Street to southbound Jackson Street to Kellogg Boulevard. [unquote]

They were out working today to try to get stuff done:
Tardy lane opening on 169 draws motorists' ire
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony next Thursday to celebrate the completion of the Hwy. 169 and Interstate 494 interchange in Eden Prairie, and that should bring smiles to the faces of thousands of motorists who have endured lane and ramp closures over the past few years.
That joy and relief is in stark contrast to the moods and feelings drivers expressed during Wednesday morning's rush hour, when overnight road work went longer than expected and created a massive traffic jam on northbound Hwy. 169.
The highway was reduced to a single lane from Anderson Lakes Parkway to I-494 until about 8:15 a.m., and that had motorists fuming. Many experienced 30- to 40-minute delays on a trip that normally takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Crews were to have picked up the cones and barrels by 6 a.m., but they didn't clear the lanes until about two hours later. It was not immediately clear why, a MnDOT spokesperson said.
Some lanes also were closed midday Wednesday to allow crews to finish striping and rerouting traffic to the permanent configuration it will follow when everything is wrapped up by next week.

Looks like the 169-494 project must have penalties beginning on Thanksgiving (since the announcement says roadways will be "open by 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.").
Hwy 169/I-494 ramps, road and roundabout opening late on Nov. 21; Hwy 169 daytime lane closures Nov. 21
[quote] Motorists will encounter several traffic changes at the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie as new ramps, a roundabout, and the frontage road north of I-494 open by 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21.
West 78th Street, between Hwy 169 and Washington Avenue, along with the ramp from West 78th Street to westbound Interstate 494 will open at the same time, weather permitting. Also opening at this time will be the roundabout located on West 78th Street and the ramp from southbound Hwy 169 to West 78th Street.
In addition W. 78th Street north of I-494 will open beneath Hwy 169, and motorists will be able to use the frontage road connecting Prairie Center Drive and West Bush Lake Road. [unquote]

Major traffic changes ahead on I-694 Projects in Arden Hills; Lane closures planned to switch traffic, reopen roadways
[quote] Major traffic switches are planned during the next few nights as construction activity winds down for the season on the I-694 North Central Projects in Arden Hills. Motorists should watch for overnight lane closures beginning tonight on the interstate between I-35W and Lexington Avenue.
Traffic will be shifted onto the new eastbound lanes of I-694 overnight Thursday, Nov. 15. Motorists will encounter lane closures beginning at 7 p.m. today and the closures will be lifted by 5 a.m. Friday. All traffic will be on the south side of the new lanes as we continue work on the new westbound lanes. At the same time, the ramp from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-694 and the ramp from eastbound I-694 to Lexington Avenue will reopen.
This weekend, crews also will reopen northbound Snelling Avenue/Hamline Avenue across I-694. In addition, the loop from northbound Snelling to westbound I-694 will open. The loop from northbound Snelling to westbound Highway 10 will remain closed until the end of the 2013 construction season. Once Hamline Avenue is open across I-694, traffic will be controlled by a three-way stop at the intersection of Hamline Avenue and County Road F until installation of a new signal system next spring.
Westbound I-694 traffic also will be switched to the new eastbound lanes of the interstate at the west end of the project this weekend to allow for construction of two new bridges. At the same time, access from westbound I-694 to westbound Highway 10 also will be closed through the fall of 2013 due to next year’s construction activity on Highway 10 and at the intersection of County Road 96. All traffic changes will be completed by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19 as originally scheduled.
Please watch for construction workers and equipment on the roadway as well as lane closures and traffic switches and closures. [unquote]

Ramp openings at Hwy 169/I-494 postponed
[quote] Due to inclement weather, the ramp from eastbound I-494 to Washington Avenue and the ramp from Washington Avenue to southbound Hwy 169 are rescheduled to open Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Several ramps and new roads did open this past weekend. Marth Road, between Hwy 169 and West Bush Lake Road, and the corresponding roundabout, the ramp from Marth Road to eastbound I-494, and Washington Avenue under Hwy 169 are open to traffic. Some nightly closures this week beginning at the early evening; two related to the Lafayette Bridge project and one to the I-494 improvement project:
1) Overnight lane closures scheduled for I-94 Nov. 12-14
[quote] Motorists may encounter congestion and delays as lane closures take effect on both directions of I-94 between Mounds Blvd. and the I-35E commons section at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 through Wednesday, Nov. 14.
All lanes will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14.
These closures are needed as crews remove permanent barrier from the Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge. [unquote] 2) Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge overnight closures scheduled for Nov. 12-16
[quote] Motorists traveling the northbound Hwy 52 Lafayette Bridge will encounter overnight detours as the bridge closes between Concord Street and East 7th Street daily at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 through Thursday, Nov. 15.
The northbound bridge will reopen by 5 a.m. daily Tuesday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 16.
In addition, southbound Hwy 52 will close between eastbound and westbound West 7th Street daily at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 through Thursday, Nov. 15.
All southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. daily Tuesday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 16.
Access to southbound Hwy 52 from westbound I-94, southbound I-35E and eastbound I-94 will remain available.
The closures are needed as crews remove permanent barrier and replace it with temporary barrier in order to build a bypass.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour signs. [unquote]
3) Watch for night-time I-494 lane closures Nov. 12-15
[quote] Motorists may encounter delays on both directions of I- 494 in Bloomington beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 13 and 14 when the left lane will close both directions of I-494 at Xerxes Avenue.
At 11 p.m. Nov. 12, 13 and 14, both directions of 494 will be reduced to a single lane at Xerxes Avenue.
All lanes will reopen each day by 5 a.m. Nov. 13, 14 and 15.
The lane closures are necessary as crews begin pile driving for foundations on the new Xerxes Avenue Bridge.
Noise and vibration are associated with pile driving, and MnDOT and its contractor will take care to minimize both.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. [unquote]

One weekend closure and one project completion:
1) If you were planning on using Hwy 169 between I-494 and Valley View along the Eden Prairie-Edina border this weekend:
Hwy 169 closure scheduled for Nov. 9-12
[quote] Motorists will encounter delays and a detour on Hwy 169 in Eden Prairie and Edina as both directions of the roadway close between Valley View Road and Interstate 494 at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
Posted detours will direct motorists to bypass the closure via Hwy 212, Hwy 62 and Hwy 100.
Access to Eden Prairie Center, local businesses and neighborhoods adjacent to the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange will remain open and available during the closure.
Hwy 212 and local roadways that service neighborhoods and other businesses south of I-494 will remain unaffected.
Hwy 169 and all affected ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12.
Part of the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange reconstruction project, the closure is necessary as crews stripe Hwy 169 and continue work on bridge decks above it. [unquote] 2) If you use I-694 in the northeast metro, good news:
I-694 fully opened to traffic late in the day Nov. 8
[quote] Westbound/northbound I-694 between 40th Street North and Hwy 61 in the East Metro reopened to two lanes of traffic Thursday night.
Eastbound/southbound I-694 reopened to two lanes of traffic earlier this week. At that time the ramp from eastbound I-694 to Hwy 61 and the ramp from Hwy 61 to westbound I-694 also reopened to traffic.
All ramps within the project area are now open to traffic.
During the next week motorists may experience temporary off-peak lane and shoulder closures as any remaining project work is completed. [unquote]

DI: regarding the I-494/TH169 interchange.
It looks like there is easier access to the surface streets like Washington Avenue from all directions except WB 494; for that one must still go north on 169 to Valley View.
Access ramps to WB and EP 494, and to SB 169, all appear to workable. For NB 169, all surface traffic must still go north to Valley View.
There appears to be a lot of innovative ideas at work here. Too bad 169 is still only two lanes in each direction -- traffic will still back up half a mile or more on I-494 both EB and WB every afternoon, trying to squeeze onto SB 169.

A rescheduled opening (and related closing) and an update on the closed Stillwater Lift Bridge:
1) Ramps and roundabout opening at Highway 169/Interstate 494 rescheduled for Nov. 7; Highwood Drive at 169 permanent closing also rescheduled
[quote] Due to inclement weather tonight’s opening of the Interstate 494 south frontage road, ramps and roundabout in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie has been re-scheduled to open Nov. 7, weather permitting.
As a reminder, Marth Road along with the ramp from Marth Road to eastbound Interstate 494 will now open the evening of Nov. 7. Also opening will be the roundabout located on Marth Road. In addition W. 78th Street/Washington Avenue, south of I-494, will open and motorists will be able to cross beneath Highway 169.
Once the road and ramp are open, Highwood Drive will be closed permanently at Highway 169, and a cul de sac constructed. The current ramp from northbound Highway 169 to Highwood Drive will route motorists directly to the roundabout and frontage road.
The ramp from Washington Avenue to southbound Highway 169, along with the ramp from eastbound I-494 to W. 78th Street/Washington Avenue, will also open during this same timeframe. Eastbound I-494 exit signs will identify this new ramp as Washington Avenue only. [unquote] 2) For those who use the Stillwater Lift Bridge an update. Also, for those who might be traveling overnight on Hwy 36 or 95 in the Stillwater area should see a related post in the Lost Twin Cities III topic.
Stillwater Lift Bridge rehabilitation project continues on schedule; Tentative to reopen to vehicle traffic in early December
[quote] The Stillwater Lift Bridge rehabilitation project begun on July 9 and closed to motor vehicles since Sept. 10, is on track to reopen to motor vehicles by the end of the first week of December, weather permitting.
Rehabilitation of the historic bridge focuses on repairing steel connections, replacing and repairing various mechanical and electrical components, replacing concrete driving surfaces, repairing floor beams, painting portions of the bridge and replacing guardrail and curb and gutter.
Crews are approximately 70 percent finished with the project.
The official detour routes during the closure of the Lift Bridge continue to be the I-94 Bridge at Hudson, Wis. or at the Hwy 243 Bridge in Osceola, Wis. [unquote] (Gotta love the “official” detour routes; like there’s a secret bridge that might be used as an unofficial detour.)

You can tell that the construction season is coming to an end by the flurry of “now open” postings on the statewide Mn/DOT site.
Hamline Avenue, County Road F intersection opened late in the day Oct. 31; Month-long closure lifted on schedule
[quote] The intersection of Hamline Avenue and Ramsey County Road F in Arden Hills reopened to traffic as scheduled on Wednesday afternoon. Hamline Avenue remains closed south of County Road F until the end of November. Traffic is currently un-restricted but once Hamline Avenue reopens, the intersection will operate as a three-way stop.
The intersection was closed throughout October to allow construction crews to rebuild the intersection located just north of Interstate 694. The work also included installation of underground utilities needed for a signal system being installed next April. [unquote]

Hwy 10/Ramsey County Road 10 ramps open at I-35W in Arden Hills, Mounds View
[quote] Following the completion of striping and placement of signs along the interstate yesterday, the newly rebuilt ramps between I-35W and Hwy 10/Ramsey County Road 10 in Arden Hills and Mounds View opened to traffic around 8:30 p.m. last night. The ramps were closed when the old bridges were demolished in early June to allow crews to build the new structures.
The ramps carry northbound I-35W to westbound County Road 10 and southbound I-35W to eastbound Hwy 10. Motorists can still only travel eastbound on Hwy 10 to the intersection of County Road 96. Eastbound Hwy 10 between County Road 96 and I-694 will remain closed until late November as work continues on the new alignment of eastbound I-694.
Westbound Hwy 10 traffic is unrestricted.
However, motorists will encounter daily ramp closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. next week as crews finish work on the storm sewer ponding and complete final clean-up. [unquote]

Some late-breaking news from Mn/DOT and a clarification from the City of Mpls concerning the status of the Lowry Ave. Bridge until early evening:
1) Ramp opens & closings and traffic changes on I-694 in the northeast metro:
[quote] Oakdale area motorists may experience delays as the eastbound ramp from I-694 to Hwy 61 and the ramp from Hwy 61 to westbound I-694 close late tonight.
At that time the ramps at White Bear Avenue and Highway 120 (Century Avenue) will reopen and eastbound/southbound traffic will be transferred to its usual side of the roadway.
Traffic continues to travel in a single lane between Highway 61 and east of Hwy 120. Eastbound/southbound I-694 traffic is open to two lanes of traffic east of Highway 120.
The ramp closures are needed as crews continue work on the I-694 resurfacing project. The ramps are expected to reopen by the project’s completion in early November.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and follow posted detours for ramp closures. [unquote] 2) Nightly I-494 lane closures in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie begin tonight
[quote] Motorists will experience delays in both directions of I-494 between East Bush Lake Road and Hwy 212 in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie due lanes closures beginning Friday, Oct. 26.
Nightly lane closures will occur in both directions of I-494 between East Bush Lake Road and Hwy 212 beginning at 7 p.m. tonight. The lane closures will continue nightly through Friday, Nov. 2. The lane closures are necessary as crews continue with construction of the westbound I-494 bridge to southbound Hwy 169. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning following the closures and by 6 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 28. [unquote] 3) Lowry Avenue Bridge will open Oct. 27 evening
[quote] The Lowry Avenue Bridge is scheduled to open to traffic early evening, Saturday, Oct. 27 according to Hennepin County. Guess who's all excited about the Lowry Avenue Bridge Grand Opening?
ME!!!
With the Plymouth Ave Bridge now open to limited traffic, daily commute in the afternoon across the bridge onto 94 has dropped to under 5 minutes (instead of 15+ during the 4-6 timeframe). I can't wait for even less traffic!

One full closure and one partial closure this weekend:
1) If you were planning on traveling eastbound on I-494, east of Hwy 77 in Bloomington (including heading to the airport):
Eastbound I-494 closing Oct. 26-28
[quote] Motorists will experience delays and a detour on eastbound Interstate 494 in Bloomington as all lanes of the roadway close at 10 p.m. Oct. 26 between Highway 77 and 24th Avenue.
This eastbound full closure is necessary as crews repave the roadway.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour: northbound Highway 77 to eastbound Highway 62 and southbound Highway 5.
Eastbound I-494 will reopen by 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. [unquote] 2) If you are planning on using eastbound I-694 between I-35W and U.S. 10 in Arden Hills:
Another weekend lane closure ahead for I-694 in Arden Hills
[quote] Eastbound I-694 will be restricted to a single lane from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 between I-35W and Highway 10 in Arden Hills. A 3-week closure at I-494 & U.S. 169 plus continued evening closures on Hwy 5 by the airport:
1) If you go from northbound Hwy 169 to westbound I-494:
Loop/ramp closure at Hwy169/I-494 interchange starts Oct. 24; Southbound Hwy 169 to be re-routed to newly constructed lanes
[quote] Motorists may experience delays as a ramp closure and traffic change take place at the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie Wednesday, Oct. 24.
The loop/ramp from northbound Hwy 169 to westbound I-494 will close before the Oct. 24 morning rush hour and remain closed for approximately three weeks as crews reconstruct it.
Access from Hwy 169 to westbound I-494 will be available via Hwy 212 during the closure.
In addition, southbound Hwy 169 traffic is scheduled to be re-routed to the newly constructed southbound lanes during the evenings of Oct. 26 and 27. Motorists are advised to use caution where crews are present. [unquote] 2) Hwy 5 overnight lane closures occur Oct. 22-27
[quote] Motorists will experience delays on both directions of Hwy 5 near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as nightly lane closures occur Oct. 22-27.
The left lane and shoulder of westbound Hwy 5 between just west of Hwy 55 and the Terminal 1 exit will close at 7 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. each day.
The right lane and shoulder of eastbound Hwy 5 between Post Road and Glumack Drive will close at 7 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. each day.
The lane closures are needed as crews continue to install runway towers and lighting for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. [unquote]

Two ramp closures beginning Monday morning and one road has reopened:
1) If you use the ramp at the end of the Lafayette Bridge from northbound U.S. 52 to westbound I-94:

[quote] Motorists may encounter delays as the ramp from northbound Hwy 52 to westbound I-94 in St. Paul closes at 5 a.m., Oct. 22.
The ramp closure is necessary as crews reconstruct it.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour during the closure.
Follow eastbound 7th Street to Mounds Blvd. to eastbound I-94.
The ramp will reopen in late November. [unquote] 2) If you use the ramp from Mississippi River Blvd and Shepard Rd to westbound Hwy 5 in St. Paul:
Week-long Hwy 5 ramp closure starts Oct. 22
[quote] St. Paul motorists may encounter delays and a detour as the ramp from South Mississippi River Boulevard/Shepard Road to westbound Hwy 5 closes Monday, Oct. 22.

If you're planning on heading southbound on Hiawatha in Mpls. this weekend, in addition to the complete closure between 26th and Lake:
[quote] Closures to affect traffic on Hiawatha Avenue this weekend
Southbound lanes of Hiawatha Avenue will close to traffic this weekend. This is in addition to a complete closure of the highway already in place in both directions between 26th Street and Lake Street. The highway will be reopened in time for Monday morning rush hour.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, southbound lanes of Hiawatha Avenue, from Lake Street to 54th Street will close to all traffic. This closure will last until 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Intersections will remain open to traffic crossing Hiawatha and for vehicles turning onto northbound Hiawatha. This closure is part of construction to improve traffic signal timing along Hiawatha Avenue.
Meanwhile, Hiawatha Avenue will remain closed in both directions from Lake Street to 26th Street as part of Xcel Energy’s work to bury new high-voltage transmission lines. This section of the highway will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23. The bicycle and pedestrian crossing at 28th Street is being maintained throughout construction. [unquote]

If you use the ramp between eastbound E. 7th and westbound I-94 (by the Holiday) in St. Paul, Friday will be your last chance (ever) to do so.
Eastbound East 7th Street ramp to close permanently on Oct. 19
[quote] The slip ramp connecting eastbound 7th Street to westbound Interstate 94 will close permanently at 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19.
To reach westbound I-94, East 7th Street motorists must follow East 7th Street to Mounds Boulevard and enter the freeway there.
This ramp closure is necessary as crews reconstruct the Hwy 52 and I-94 interchange and is associated with the Highway 52 Lafayette Bridge project. [unquote]

[quote] The Lyndale Avenue Bridge will be open to traffic at 1:00pm on October 15, 2012. The contractor will be completing work on the slopes and railing which will require temporary lane shifts. [unquote]

Seems like there are a lot more closures now than during the summer.
1) If you enter or exit from eastbound I-694 in Arden Hills/Shoreview:
As eastbound I-694 Victoria Street ramp opens, ramp from eastbound interstate to Lexington Avenue closes:
[quote] The ramp from eastbound Interstate 694 to Victoria Street in Shoreview reopened to traffic late last night, several months ahead of schedule. The Minnesota Department of Transportation was able to reopen the ramp as work on the south half of the new Interstate 694 bridge at Island Lake progressed far enough to move equipment located near the ramp.
However, the eastbound I-694 ramp to Lexington Avenue on the Arden Hills/Shoreview border closed early this morning. During this one-month closure crews will construct the new eastbound interstate pavement and a new exit from eastbound I-694 to Lexington Avenue. During the closure, motorists should follow the signed detour.
During the closure motorists should allow for extra travel time and follow the signed detour to Victoria Street. Westbound I-694 and the westbound interstate ramp to Lexington Avenue will not be affected and traffic will be able to travel between the eastbound and westbound interstate from Lexington Avenue, Victoria Street and Rice Street.
Motorists will continue to encounter some lane restrictions on the eastbound roadway for additional paving and guard rail installation at Island Lake. [unquote] 2) If you plan on traveling between I-494 and Hwy 77 or 24th Ave. in Bloomington during the evening:
Watch for nighttime I-494 ramp closures beginning Oct. 16
[quote] Motorists will experience nightly delays on both directions of I-494 in Bloomington as ramps close Tuesday, Oct. 16 through Friday, Oct. 19.
The following ramps and loops will close at 9 p.m. • Eastbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 77 • Eastbound I-494 to 24th Avenue • Westbound I-494 to 24th Avenue • Southbound and northbound 24th Avenue to Eastbound I-494 • Westbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 77 • Northbound Hwy 77 ramp to eastbound I-494
All ramps are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
The ramp closures are necessary as crews resurface the ramps.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. [unquote]

Oops!!! Thanks to Bungee for pointing out that Hwy 77 doesn't cross the _Mississippi_. Having crossed that bridge conservatively at least 5,000 times, you'd think I might know that it actually crosses the _Minnesota_ River.

If you use southbound Hwy 77/Cedar Ave. at the Mississippi River, you might want to stay at home the rest of the week:
Segment of southbound Hwy 77 reducing to a single lane
[quote] Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on southbound Hwy 77 at the south end of the Minnesota River Bridge at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 as crews repair expansion joints.
The road is expected to be open to two lanes by 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19.
In addition, the right lane of northbound Hwy 77 will close at the Minnesota River Bridge at 9 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 16 for joint repair as well.
Northbound 77 is expected to reopen by 10 p.m. that day.
Southbound motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
All work is weather permitting and could change for inclement weather. [unquote]
Note the southbound I-35E has been backed up since southbound Hwy 77 has been down to two lanes so be prepared for gridlock with only one open.

Good news and bad news as the work week begins:
1) Great news for those who use the Plymouth Ave. or Broadway bridges over the Mississippi in Mpls.:
[quote] Plymouth Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis reopens Monday
The Plymouth Avenue Bridge river crossing will reopen Monday after a two-year closure. Crews have completed repairs to the main spans over the Mississippi River, making it possible for traffic to resume. The time of the bridge’s opening on Monday has yet to be determined.
Although the bridge will open Monday, there will be lane restrictions in place. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction until late November. All lanes on the bridge will then open to traffic through the winter.
When construction resumes in April 2013, lane restrictions will be back in place until the final repairs are completed at the end of the summer. [unquote] 2) Continued evening lane closures on Hwy 5 adjacent to the airport:
Hwy 5 overnight lane closures occur Oct. 14-20
[quote] Motorists will experience delays on both directions of Hwy 5 near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport as nightly lane closures occur Oct. 14-20.
[unquote] 3) If you use the northbound I-35E to southbound Hwy-77/Cedar Ave. ramp:
Northbound I-35E ramp closing Oct. 15:
[quote] Motorists can expect detours on I-35E as the ramp from northbound I-35E to southbound Highway 77 closes at 5 a.m. Monday Oct. 15 as crews continue concrete repair on the ramp.
The ramp is scheduled to reopen by. Oct. 22.
Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour in order to bypass the ramp closure. [unquote]

As soon as the ramp opens, the traffic signal on northbound Highway 169 at I-494 will be deactivated. Motorists also should watch for overnight lane closures near the interchange as crews prepare to open the ramp.
Also on Oct. 9, reconstruction will begin on the loop ramp from northbound Highway 169 to westbound I-494. The ramp will remain open at this time, but is expected to close later in October. [unquote]

Unless you’re a glutton for punishment (or are participating in the Twin Cities Marathon/10K or are going to the Vikings game), you might want to avoid downtown Mpls on Sunday as well as much of the area between the Mpls. Chain of Lakes and the State Capitol:
1) Thousands of runners hit the streets Sunday for Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
On Sunday, Oct. 7, thousands of runners will travel city streets in Minneapolis as part of the 31st Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and the Medtronic TC 10 Mile race.
Marathon runners will start at 8 a.m. (wheelchair start is at 7:55 a.m.) at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and run down Sixth Street to Hennepin Avenue. The 26.2 mile course heads south along the scenic parkways that line the chain of lakes, and onto Minnehaha Parkway. From there, runners will follow the course east to West River Parkway, cross the Mississippi River at Franklin Avenue, and head into Saint Paul to finish near the State Capitol.
The Medtronic TC 10 Mile run will begin at 7:09 a.m., also in downtown Minneapolis. Runners will start at Portland Avenue and 4th Street, then head north to the West River Parkway. The route follows the parkway to Franklin Avenue. Runners then take East River Road into Saint Paul to finish at the Capitol.
Drivers are encouraged to check the course map and take alternate routes to avoid street closures during the races. While runners are on the courses, no vehicle or pedestrian traffic will be permitted. Runners are expected to maintain a 13:44 minute-per-mile pace, and streets will be reopened a few minutes after the runners have passed by.
For course maps and schedules that can help spectators and drivers, visit the Twin Cities In Motion web site at www.tcmevents.org. 2) Streets near the Metrodome to close for Vikings game Sunday, Oct. 7
The City of Minneapolis will close several streets around Mall of America Field at the H.H.H. Metrodome as a security measure for the Minnesota Vikings game Oct. 7 against the Tennessee Titans. Sunday's kick-off is at 3:30 p.m.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m., Oct. 8, the City will close the following streets: • Fifth Street, from 11th Avenue to Park Avenue • Chicago Avenue, from Third Street to Sixth Street • Fourth Street, from Park Avenue to I-35W • Norm McGrew Place, from Third Street to Fourth Street
After the game the streets will reopen after the fans clear the Metrodome (around 7:30 p.m.). [unquote]

I've taken the new flyover from West 494 to South 169, but at the beginning of afternoon rush. Once the junction at the bottom of the ramp is clened up, should be an easy merge. As it stood Wednesday 494 east and west met to be funneled into one lane which then got funneled into one lane a mile south with 169. I really look forward to this intersection being completed.
Further along 494, lots of progress seems to have been made between 35W and Highway 100 on the Westbound side.

The flyover ramp from eastbound I-494 to southbound Hwy 169 will open late on Oct. 4, weather permitting. Motorists should watch for overnight lane closures on eastbound I-494 near the interchange as crews prepare to open the ramp.
Additionally, several more ramps are scheduled to open in the coming weeks. The flyover ramp from westbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 169 will open the week of Oct. 8 (weather permitting), followed by the new ramp from Marth Road to eastbound I-494, which is scheduled to open near the end of October.

The 35E & Maryland Ave bridge is 100% OPEN now. All the lanes and ramps are open, the signals all function.
St Paul's PD Motorcycle Unit was celebrating by taking pictures of westbound Maryland drivers at mid-morning.
Hmmm... too bad they weren't around here in the previous several days. With the amount of illegal turns that my co-workers and I observed, the PD could have helped solve the City's money problems.

One closing, one opening beginning tomorrow:
1) If you use the intersection of Hamline Ave & County Road F, just north of I-694, in Arden Hills:
Hamline Avenue, County Road F intersection closes October 1; Month-long closure needed to rebuild intersection
[quote] As reconstruction continues on the I-694 North Central Projects in Arden Hills, the intersection of Hamline Avenue and Ramsey County Road F will close at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 1. During the month-long closure, construction crews will rebuild the intersection located just north of Interstate 694 and install the necessary underground utilities for the future signal system.
When completed by early November, the intersection will operate as a four-way stop until the new signal system is installed in April 2013.
During the work, motorists should follow the posted detour on Ramsey County 96 and Lexington Avenue to reach County Road F. [unquote] 2) If you use the I-494/U.S. 169 interchange in the southwest metro:
New flyover ramp opening at Hwy 169/I-494 Oct. 1
[quote] Motorists will experience a traffic change at the Hwy 169/I-494 interchange in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie as a new flyover ramp opens and a loop ramp closes late Monday, Oct. 1.
The new flyover ramp from westbound Interstate 494 to southbound Hwy 169 will open late Oct. 1, weather permitting. At that time, the current loop ramp from westbound I-494 to southbound Hwy 169 will be permanently eliminated as motorists are rerouted onto the new ramp.
The flyover ramp is one of several new freeway ramps at the interchange scheduled to open over the coming weeks. Additional ramps anticipated to open soon include the ramps from eastbound I-494 to southbound Hwy 169 and the south frontage road system, and the ramp from westbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 169. If you use the I-494 corridor along the Bloomington/Richfield/Edina border:
I-494 ramp closure switch begins Sept. 28; I-35W and Penn Avenue ramps to reopen, France Avenue ramps to close
[quote] Motorists will experience delays and traffic changes on westbound I-494 in Richfield as closed ramps to and from the roadway reopen, and other ramps close late Friday, Sept. 28.
The following closed ramps will reopen to traffic: • Southbound I-35W to westbound I-494 • The westbound I-494 ramps to and from Penn Avenue
After the ramps reopen, the westbound I-494 ramps to and from France Avenue will close Sept. 28 for westbound auxiliary lane construction. Detours will direct motorists to use the westbound I-494 ramps to and from Penn Avenue. The France Avenue ramps will remain closed until early November.
The ramp closures switch is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather before or during the evening of Sept. 28. [unquote]

The left lane and shoulder of westbound Hwy 5 between Hwy 55 and the Terminal 1 exit will close at 7 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. each day.
The right lane and shoulder of eastbound Hwy 5 between Post Road and Glumack Drive will close at 7 p.m. and will reopen at 5 a.m. each day.

If you use northbound Hwy 77/Cedar Ave. in Apple Valley/Eagan, consider staying home this week:
Northbound Hwy 77 lane and ramp closures begin Sept. 24
[quote] Motorists will encounter delays as northbound Hwy 77 is reduced to a single lane between 138th Street and Diffley Road beginning at 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24.
In addition, the ramp from northbound Hwy 77 to Diffley Road and the ramp from Cliff Road to northbound Hwy 77 also will close at 5 a.m.
The lane and ramp closures are necessary as crews conduct concrete repair.
The lanes are scheduled to reopen by Sept. 28, and the ramps are scheduled to reopen by Sept. 29.
Motorists are advised to use a signed detour to bypass the ramp closure. [unquote]
