What's with all the Petro stations charging more than anyone else lately? I live in Whitby area and see that all the Petro stations are a minimum of 2 cents higher than everyone else, even stations directly across the street from them. In some cases it's as much as 5 cents.

If I look at all the stations in Whitby, in a list of about 25 or so, the most expensive (which is about the top 15) are all Petro's except 1.

I have a Gas card from 407 which is only good at Petro that let's me save 2 cents a liter, so basically it get's me gas at the price everyone else is selling it for. What's up??

Argh...

That is so strange, Mr Argh. The only thing I remember about Whitby is the panty raids my friends and I went on to Trafalgar Castle School. What a bunch of fun girls were there.

You can't delete your post but you can contact the website moderators via the Help link at the top of the page and ask that they move the topic to your local discussion category.

But to answer your question about why one brand is higher priced than another, you (and I) don't know what their business plan is, what their operating expenses are (they may be owned by the same or different franchise operators); they may have different franchise fees, salaries, initial investment costs to make up, advertising, etc. It could be any number of reasons including expecting or trying to get a return on their investment. And what you (and I) don't know is what they're paying wholesale versus what others are paying wholesale, or if other stations are being subsidized or enjoy (bad sounding word but grammatically correct) greater mark-up in the convenience store to offset expenses.

Of course what you could do is simply contact Petro, note that you're a former loyal customer in the Whitby area, and have switched gas stations because of their higher pricing in the Whitby area, and ask if they can explain the rationale for their pricing/marketing. You might be surprised that they answer you. You might not like or agree with the answer, but you can see the reasoning from their perspective/see their rationale.

Now...about posting gas prices for the Petro and other stations...
