I drove around town early this evening and as usual, picked up gas prices from quite a few stations along the way. With the average price of gasoline over $4 in Los Angeles for the last few days, things have changed unexpectedly. Diesel at several stations is now -less- than Premium, and about even with Mid-grade.

I can't remember the last time I saw diesel at or lower than premium anywhere in my area!

Yes, I have noticed this also. Pricing of diesel has always been somewhat of a mystery to me, it seems to not be wholly dependent on gasoline prices. Perhaps a greater supply available to autos if the aviation sector is not using as much?

I remember back, was it 2008 or 2006, diesel was $0.40 less than regular for a few months in the OC. Desperate people were trying to put the cheaper diesel in their spark ignition cars, with disasterous results. I don't care if diesel is 5-7 percent more than regular. I get 30 percent better mileage and I am crying all the way to my next 600 mile fill up. TDI

Keep driving around and let us know if you see anything else. Try Central and Venice late at night.

Depending on station here, it's running between $3.83 - $4.13 for premium and $3.99 - $4.19 for diesel, so they're still about 6-16 cents apart, on average.

Yes, we are seeing this same trend up here in Northern California. Just a note of caution, Mr Goodyear. Watch out for car jackers down there in L.A!

Diesel used to be even with premium but is now 20 cents/gallon higher. I can remember when it was even with regular gas (20 years ago)
