Nope! Didn't you get the email? Vacations have been cancelled for the time being. Don't even think about a vacation.

////I'm sure the oil industry would love to see $5 gas, but the reality is our economy can't sustain prices that high. They might get there, but I doubt they stay there long...////

This year could be different but prices in our area usually peak in late spring.

Gas should be a little less in summer. we did not need the additive added to our gas just in the midwest. try it in other places. let our prices go down.

There is no need of gas prices going up everytime you turn around. The rich are just making sure that they keeping getting richer.

Summer gas prices will be $4 to $5 and Obama won't build the oil pipeline from Canada, how dumb is that?

The way it works now is there can be little or no demand and the prices go up.

Price goes up in the summer due to higher demand because of people driving for vacation, prices go up in the winter due to higher demand for heating fuel. Prices go up because the oil companies need another billion in profits.... we keep paying because we have no alternative....

For some of us, that is not a deal breaker. If 5 bucks keeps you home this summer, you may need a part-time job.

"CANCEL ALL VACATIONS AND VISIT NEARBY CITIES... OR VISIT MUSEUMS NEAR YOUR HOME"
That is not cancelling your vacation; that's changing where you vacation. There are a lot of reasons why you might change where you vacation, economic reasons. The price of gas is just one reason that would affect your planning. But if you're planning to go to see Uncle Henry and Aunt Gertrude, and the cost of gas means you're adding $50 to the cost of your vacation, you'll cancel it?
I just want to make sure you're consistent about cancelling your vacation. You also have given up your daily cup of Starbucks and bottled water? You've given up your unlimited phone and text plans and make calls or text at an absolute minimum? You've given up your cable television for the most part, and have only the most basic of cable plans, not the extras such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc., package along with all the movie channels, etc.? You don't have any more car/truck than you need, in order to keep your initial cost down, and the financing, and the insurance? You didn't unnecessarily buy a new computer or iPad when you already had a good (even if not top of the line/newest) one?
I just want to make sure, since you're yelling about giving up your vacation, that you have your priorities straight, and that you're being consistent. After all, I haven't said anything yet about buying "named" clothing such as Abercrombie and Fitch, or American Eagle, or maybe buying something less than top brand at the supermarket. I mean if you're going to complain about some money for a vacation, I'm just looking for consistency. That's all. Just consistency.
And that's not feeding into the oil companies. There are a lot of reasons why gas prices increase, and unless you're saying that your company's retirement plan, or that of your spouse or relatives, and those of your friends and neighbors aren't investing in the oil industry, then you're apparently part of the problem, aren't you?

diesdown: That's not a mentality, that is the reality. I am not going to cancel my vacation plans for a few dollars. As TrixyNY said "Dont be such a cheap skate! ".

Maxstar: A price increase of a dollar a gallon means about an additional cost per tank of around 12 to 15 dollars. Not enough for me to cancel vacation. Compared to the total cost of a trip the additional cost of the gas is minor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that's the mentality the gas companies are counting on!

I can almost guarantee you the national average of gasoline will NOT hit $5 per gallon. The economy will go into a significant downward spiral and would crash HARD if this happens.

Wrong; vacation will still happen this summer. For you and for other people. You, personally, just may not drive where you might otherwise, but that's called budgeting and planning. As for your hearing that gas prices will be 5 a gallon by Memorial Day, I'm not sure who you heard that from, but do you believe everything you hear when there's no further information to support the statement?
Tell you what; I'll bet you a gallon of gas that prices don't reach that high by Memorial Day. Not saying that is5olated gas stations won't charge that price (because there's always isolated gas stations that are high priced for any number of reasons), but the national average? Unless there's a significant world or domestic disruption that affects the distribution network, or closing of production facilities/wells/refineries, I would take that bet that you won't see $5 a gallon by Memorial Day.
