I have been up and down I-16 in Georgia the past few weeks and noticed few stations were listed in GasBuddy. I added the stations at Metter one weekend and they showed up immediately on the map view with the brand icons (e.g., Chevron). I added others along the way this weekend and they show up with a generic icon even though they are name brand stations. Am I doing something wrong?

I believe you ran across a glitch that has now been fixed. The stations are showing up with the correct station logos now.

I am looking at both the Android app and the website.

When I have added stations in Macon and in Metter (exit 104 - there were only 2 originally and I added the others), the stations showed up on the Android app and website with the brand icon immediately.

I am using the MSL on the website to add the stations.

The stations I added later on I-16 between Macon and Metter are Chevron, BP, and Marathon stations at exits 6, 12, 67, 71, and 98. They now show up on the Android app and the website with generic icons. They were not in the MSL and I looked them up in the various brand station finders to get the exact addresses to make sure I was accurate. (One Chevron station along the way does not show up in Chevron's search so I did not add it.)

Just curious! (For some reason, I decided to put the work into making I-16 less of a wasteland, but felt like I had done something wrong.)

That is true when it comes to the icons on the map on the full site. On the android app, all major brands show up as icons. Independents have a generic icon.

In other words, if the station paid Gas Buddy, it would show up as an icon, otherwise, it's just text.

bsga - Can you be more more specific on where you are seeing these icons? Are you seeing them on the full website or somewhere on an app? Looking at the android app, it looks like all the stations you added have the generic icon, even the ones in Metter.

kwzh - Your advice does not fit with this problem. If these stations were part of GasBuddy Direct, they would have been in the MSL already.

"Brand icons are associated with stations that are participating in the GasBuddy Direct project."

Not entirely true. There are many national brands that are not part of the GB_Direct program.

Brand icons are associated with stations that are participating in the GasBuddy Direct project. Generic icons are associated with all other stations. Two stations of the same brand, in different areas, might have one GBD participant and one non-participant. Is this consistent with what you're observing?

I don't know how you entered the gas station info but I would suspect that if the name or address of the station you entered does not exactly match the info for a station already in the MSL (Master Station List), it will appear as a "generic" station on the map.

I know many times a gas station does not seem to already be in the system but it is, only it is listed under a slightly different name, or in a different town than expected. In both those cases I have found that the MSL for my area has it right, for example where I thought a station was in one town it is actually on the border of the adjacent town.

To make things more confusing, a city or town does not appear in the Area list if there are very few stations in that area and the Area must be entered by clicking Area-Other.
